Projects-in-a-Box
Produced by the American Medical Student Association's Generalist
Physicians in Training initiative, these modules are designed
to educate, provoke interest and help students develop opinions
about important, timely issues in primary care medicine. For
everyone using these Boxes, we appreciate your interest in helping
to disseminate important primary care information to physicians-in-training
across the country.
- Academic
Medicine and Managed Care: An Uncertain Future
details the relationship between managed care organizations,
academic medical centers and the funding of medical education.
- Child
Abuse and Neglect gives an overview of how dangerous
abuse and neglect are, demonstrating the need for medical students
to take a proactive approach towards reporting instances of abuse
and neglect.
- Childhood
and Adult Immunizations: A Model for Preventive Health
disseminates simple "how-to" steps to ensure basic
preventive health practices for both children and adults.
- Clinical
Ethics in a Generalist's Practice discusses the
range of medical decisions and challenges faced by generalist

Competency in Medicine outlines the steps that
physicians in training and in practice can take to bridge the
cultural gaps that may exist between themselves and their patients.

Delivery of Urban vs. Rural Health Care compares
the challenges of health care delivery in different underserved
settings, providing resources for students interested in obtaining
experience in both settings.
- The
Future of International Health: Exporting Primary Care Medicine
provides a variety of resources for physicians-in-training who
are interested in studying abroad.
- Guns
and Violence explains the dangers of possessing
a firearm in the home and the effects of gun violence in society,
as well as the role physicians can have in firearm safety.

Care for the Homeless details the health problems
of the homeless, the barriers they face in accessing primary
care and the ways in which health care providers can help them.

Skills and Training offers resources to help the

urban emergency department in providing primary health care to
inner-city populations.

members of the interdisciplinary health care team and on how
the team approach may improve health care.

highlights the population changes that are taking place
in America and how medical students can prepare for this generation

Public Health and Primary Care explains the role
physicians can have in tobacco control legislation and the effects
